The least popular screen we have ever built is the one that shows a host money they cannot yet touch.
"Processing" is the industry's word for this, and it is a non-answer. Processing what? The payment already succeeded. Razorpay confirmed it in about four seconds. So where is it.
The event you were paid for has not happened yet
This is the whole thing, and everything else follows from it.
When a guest pays on Monday for a Thursday session, Monday's payment is not revenue. It is a promise with money attached. You have not done the work. The guest can cancel. You can cancel. The session can be rescheduled twice and end up in August.
So a booking's money becomes yours when the booking is completed — not when it is paid for. Those are different dates, and conflating them is how a platform ends up asking hosts to send money back.
Then seven more days
After completion there is a clearing window before you can withdraw. This is the part that feels arbitrary, so: it is the window for the thing that goes wrong after the session.
A guest disputes the charge. A card payment reverses. Someone marks a session complete that both parties disagree about. All of that lands in the days *after* the appointment, not before.
If we paid out instantly, that money would already be in your bank when the reversal hit — and then the conversation is us asking you to return money you have already spent. That conversation destroys the relationship, every time, regardless of who was right. Seven quiet days beats one of those.
We are not earning interest on your balance. The window exists to absorb reversals, not to hold your money for a yield. The day we can shorten it safely, we will.
One number, computed once
Every screen that shows your balance — dashboard, earnings, payouts — reads from a single function. There is no second implementation, no cached copy that drifts.
This sounds like a small engineering detail and it is actually the whole product. The fastest way to lose a host's trust forever is to show them two different balances in one session. They will not file a bug. They will just quietly stop believing every number you ever show them, including the correct ones.
And one gate
Withdrawal requires completed verification. Not because we enjoy paperwork, but because the payout is the only place money leaves the building, so it is the only place worth guarding properly. The details of that are in what happens to your Aadhaar.
Cancelled bookings never count toward earnings at any stage. That one should not need saying, but we have used platforms where it did.
Common questions
When can I withdraw my earnings from Book A Sloth?
After a booking is completed, plus a seven-day clearing window. Payment date and completion date are different — money becomes yours when the session actually happens, not when the guest pays.
Why is there a seven-day wait?
To absorb disputes and payment reversals, which arrive after the session rather than before. Paying out instantly would mean asking hosts to return money they have already received and spent.
Do I need KYC to withdraw?
Yes. Identity verification gates withdrawal only — you can publish a page and take bookings without it.
Does Book A Sloth earn interest on my pending balance?
No. The clearing window exists to cover reversals, not to hold a float.
