There is a specific kind of silence that comes with launching something. You build the payment flow. You test the payment flow. You test it again with your own card, refund yourself, and feel briefly like a man laundering ₹500 through his own startup. And then you wait for a stranger to decide you are worth paying for.
On 30 June, at 6:46 in the evening, one did.
Atish Gupta, The Edulocus Way, Nagpur
Atish runs a career counselling practice in Nagpur. He sits with students and their parents at the exact moment those two groups are least able to hear each other, and helps them pick a college. His tagline is “Right Guidance. Right College. Bright Future.” His own description of the work is about turning aspirations into academic journeys, which is a generous way to describe talking a 17-year-old out of an engineering degree he does not want.
He signed up, looked around, and bought an annual Host+ plan about twenty-six minutes later. No sales call. No demo. No founder sliding into anyone's DMs. He just read the page and decided.
We know the exact minute because we were refreshing the dashboard like it owed us money.
Why this one counts
A signup is a maybe. Someone liked your landing page enough to type an email. A payment is a sentence with a full stop in it. It says: I have looked at the thing you built, and I believe it will still be here in a year, because I have just paid you for a year.
That second part is the one that keeps you up. Atish did not buy software. He bought a bet that we will not disappear in November. Every host who pays is extending us credit on our own future, and the only way to service that debt is to keep shipping.
A signup says you are interesting. A payment says you are accountable.
The entire lesson of 30 June
What he actually bought
The honest answer is: a booking page, and 0% commission on every rupee that moves through it. We do not take a cut of Atish's counselling fees. If he books ₹40,000 of sessions this month, ₹40,000 reaches Atish. We already charged him for the year, and charging twice for the same thing is how you end up with a pricing model you have to defend in a thread.
He also bought the boring things. GST invoices that his accountant will not send back. Payments that reconcile. Reminders that reach the parent, not just the student. None of it is exciting. All of it is the difference between a booking page and a business.
The uncomfortable part
Being someone's first paying customer is a slightly unfair thing to be. You get the least mature version of the product and the most attentive version of the team, and those two facts do not cancel out. Things Atish hit in his first week are things host number four hundred will never see, because he hit them first and we fixed them.
So this post is not a case study. We are not going to pretend one payment is traction, or put his face on the homepage under a fake quote about synergy. It is just a receipt, written down in public, for the person who went first.
Thank you, Atish. The page is yours: theedulocusway.
Common questions
Does Book A Sloth take a commission on bookings?
No. Paid plans are 0% commission — every rupee a guest pays for your service reaches you. We charge a flat plan fee, not a cut of your work. See pricing.
What does the Host+ plan include?
A booking page, 0% commission, GST invoices, WhatsApp reminders and calendar sync. Full breakdown on the pricing page.
Can I pay annually?
Yes. Both monthly and annual billing are supported, and annual works out cheaper per month. Atish bought annual.
