To price coaching services in India, pick a model (session, package or retainer), count every hour a client takes including prep and WhatsApp support, price so your effective hourly rate meets your target, and add about 2.4% for payment fees. Public listings run from about ₹500 a session for some life coaches to ₹20,000 or more for metro executive coaches.
Nearly every guide on coaching prices quotes US dollars and US clients. This one uses rupees, Indian payment fees and Indian client habits. It covers life, career, health and business coaching, with worked examples you can copy. Fitness coaches can also compare personal trainer charges in India.
How much do life coaches charge in India?
There is no official rate. What exists are listings and published reports, and they vary widely by niche and experience. These are the public figures we opened in October 2026. Book A Sloth will publish its own aggregated numbers once its booking volume is large enough to be meaningful. For one-off consultations rather than coaching, see how much to charge for consultation.
| Type of coaching | Public ₹ figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Life coach, Jaipur (one listing) | ₹500 for a single 1:1 session; ₹3,000 for a month with four sessions | LifeCoachHub coach profile |
| Career counselling | ₹700 to ₹1,000 per hour across India; ₹600 to ₹1,200 by city | UrbanPro fee estimate page |
| Executive coaching, metro cities | ₹20,000 to ₹1,00,000 per session for an experienced coach | The Ken, Cost to Company podcast, Jan 2023 |
The Jaipur figures come from a single LifeCoachHub profile, so treat them as one data point, not a market rate. UrbanPro's career counselling fee page gives the career coaching range. On executive coaching, The Ken reported that a good executive coach in an Indian metro “typically costs between 20 thousand rupees to a lakh a session” in its Cost to Company episode. The gap between ₹500 and ₹1 lakh tells you one thing: the niche and the buyer set the price far more than the word “coach”.
Coaching pricing models: session, package, retainer or group
| Model | How it works | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single session | One fixed fee per call | Career clarity calls, first sessions, one-off reviews | Clients drift away after one call |
| Package | 4 to 12 sessions sold together, paid upfront | Life, health and career coaching with a clear goal | Unused sessions and expiry disputes |
| Monthly retainer | Fixed monthly fee for calls plus async support | Business and executive coaching | Unlimited WhatsApp creeping into your evenings |
| Group programme | Same content for 6 to 20 people, fixed dates | Coaches with a repeatable method | Needs marketing to fill each cohort |
Most new coaches start with single sessions, then move to packages once they know how many sessions a typical client needs. Packages are where coaching income becomes predictable.
How to price a coaching package, step by step
- 01Decide the outcome and how many sessions it usually takes, for example six sessions over 12 weeks.
- 02Count all the hours: live sessions, prep and notes, plus any WhatsApp or email support you promise.
- 03Set your target effective hourly rate. Use the consultation fee formula: income plus costs divided by billable hours.
- 04Multiply hours by your hourly rate to get the package base.
- 05Divide by (1 minus your total fee %) to cover gateway and platform fees.
- 06Round to a clean number and check it is below six single sessions bought separately.
Worked example: a life coach's 6-session package
Meera is a life coach in Bengaluru. This is an example to show the maths, not market data. She sells a 12-week programme with six 60-minute calls. She spends 30 minutes before or after each call on prep and notes, and allows about an hour a month of WhatsApp support.
| Line | Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Live sessions | 6 × 1 hour | 6 hours |
| Prep and notes | 6 × 0.5 hour | 3 hours |
| WhatsApp support | 3 months × 1 hour | 3 hours |
| Total time | 12 hours | |
| Target effective rate | ₹1,500 per hour | |
| Package base | 12 × ₹1,500 | ₹18,000 |
| After 2.36% gateway fee | ₹18,000 ÷ 0.9764 | ₹18,435 |
| Published price | ₹18,500 |
Her single session is ₹3,500, so six bought separately cost ₹21,000. The package saves the client ₹2,500, about 12%, which is a real reason to commit. Notice what happens if she ignores prep and WhatsApp time: she would price only 6 hours and charge about ₹9,000, half of what the work actually costs her.
Your effective hourly rate after fees
The price a client pays is not what you keep. Razorpay's pricing page lists a 2% standard platform fee on UPI, cards and netbanking, plus 18% GST on that fee, which is about 2.36%. Some booking platforms also charge a commission. Topmate commission, for example, is 10% on your own link and 20% on marketplace sales. Here is Meera's ₹18,500 package under two setups, rounded to the nearest rupee.
| Setup | Fees on ₹18,500 | You keep | Per hour (12 hours) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gateway fee only (2.36%) | ₹437 | ₹18,063 | ₹1,505 |
| Gateway fee + 5% commission | ₹437 + ₹925 | ₹17,138 | ₹1,428 |
Run your own numbers through the earnings calculator before you publish a price. A 5% difference looks small on one booking and adds up across a year.
Career coach fees and retainers for business coaching
Career coaches often sell short packages: a resume and LinkedIn review, two mock interviews and a strategy call. Price each piece by time, then bundle. UrbanPro's estimate of ₹700 to ₹1,000 an hour for career counselling is a floor for a generalist; a coach with hiring-manager experience in a niche such as product management or data science can usually charge more.
Business and executive coaches usually move to monthly retainers. Example: Arjun, a business coach in Mumbai, charges ₹25,000 a month for two 60-minute calls plus async support capped at two hours a week. That is about 2 hours of calls, 2 hours of prep and 8 hours of support, or 12 hours a month, so roughly ₹2,083 an hour before fees. Write the cap into the agreement. Without it, a retainer slowly becomes an always-on helpline.
Sample coaching packages in rupees
| Package | What's included | Example price |
|---|---|---|
| Clarity call | 1 × 60-min call with a written action plan | ₹3,500 |
| Starter | 3 calls over 6 weeks + notes after each | ₹7,000 |
| Core | 6 calls over 12 weeks + WhatsApp support (1 hr/month) | ₹18,500 |
| Premium | 12 calls over 6 months + a 15-min weekly check-in | ₹37,500 |
The packages follow Meera’s ₹1,500 effective hourly rate plus gateway fees, and the single call carries a premium so packages are the better deal. Change the rate and the prices move with it. Three options are enough. Put the offer you most want to sell in the middle, where it reads as the sensible choice.
Free discovery call or paid first session?
A free 15 to 20-minute discovery call makes sense when you sell packages of ₹15,000 or more, because one conversion pays for many calls. For lower prices, a paid first session filters out people who are only browsing and reduces no-shows. Some coaches charge a small fee for the first call and adjust it against the package if the client signs up. Here is how to take the fee in advance for that first call.
How to collect coaching package fees
- Take the package fee upfront, or split it into two instalments with the second due before session 4.
- State the expiry: for example, six sessions to be used within 16 weeks.
- Write a reschedule rule: free with 24 hours' notice; late cancellations count as a used session.
- Send a GST invoice if you are registered and the client asks for one.

Where Book A Sloth fits
On Book A Sloth you list each coaching offer, such as a clarity call or a paid first session, as a fixed-price service on your booking page. Clients pick a slot, pay upfront by UPI, card or netbanking through Razorpay, and the booking confirms on payment with a Google Meet link and WhatsApp reminders. Sloth Active adds a client CRM with notes and history. It does not run recurring billing, so monthly retainers are collected as separate payments. See how it works for life coaches. The free plan charges 5% only on paid bookings; Sloth Active is ₹399 a month with 0% commission, plus Razorpay's fee of about 2.4% on both.
Coaching pricing FAQs
Common questions
How much do life coaches charge in India?
Public figures vary widely. One Jaipur life coach on LifeCoachHub lists ₹500 for a single session and ₹3,000 for a month of four sessions, while The Ken reported experienced executive coaches in metros at ₹20,000 to ₹1 lakh a session. Niche, experience and the buyer drive the price.
What are typical career coach fees in India?
UrbanPro estimates career counselling at ₹700 to ₹1,000 per hour across India, with city estimates from ₹600 to ₹1,200. Specialist career coaches with hiring experience in a specific industry often price above this, usually as short packages rather than single hours.
Should I charge per session or sell coaching packages?
Start with single sessions while you learn how many sessions a client needs. Then sell packages built around an outcome, such as six sessions over 12 weeks. Packages make income predictable and clients more committed, as long as you state the expiry and reschedule rules.
How do I calculate my effective hourly rate as a coach?
Add every hour a client takes, including prep, notes and WhatsApp support, then divide what you keep after fees by those hours. A ₹18,500 package that takes 12 hours and loses 2.36% to gateway fees works out to about ₹1,505 an hour.
How much should a new coach charge in India?
Work out your target income plus costs, divide by the hours you can bill, and add about 2.4% for gateway fees. A new coach targeting ₹1,000 an hour might price a 60-minute session at ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 and raise it after the first 20 paying clients.
